Our current trash and recycling system is broken. Our
consumption is increasing, and even as recycling trucks pass by our houses we
don’t seem to take advantage of them.
John Campbell of WasteZero, offers a new solution.
Incentivize people to do the right thing- reward those who waste less. Once a community signs on (like 800
have done in 41 states) citizens buy specific WasteZero bags for 2 bucks
a piece at a local retailer (Walmart, Target,
etc). Because people are now paying per bag, it is in their benefit to use less. Why is it that for all other utilities you pay for the amount you use (water/heat) except for trash? The truth is that the cost of waste is there for all citizens- just in the form of taxes.
As communities are being bombarded with higher costs of
trash maintenance, WasteZero offers a solution, reducing community trash by 44%
with millions of dollars of local savings left over for the city to spend
elsewhere.
Interesting concept that seems to be rapidly expanding around
the nation.
